How to look up a building permit in Quebec City
Quebec City has 66,837 permit records in this dataset, the most recent filed 2026-09-25. Over the last 12 months the city filed 11,378 permits, most of them Certificat d'autorisation. Here is how to check one address, and what this dataset already shows.
Step by step
- Start with the civic address exactly as the city writes it, street number, street name, unit. Municipal feeds match on the address string, so "123 Main St" and "123 Main Street" can return different rows.
- Open Quebec City's own permit data at donneesquebec.ca and find the dataset "vdq-permis.csv". This is the same source this page reads.
- Filter by permit type. In Quebec City the common categories are Certificat d'autorisation, Aménagement extérieur, Permis de construction.
- Check the status and the issue date, not just the filing. A filed permit is not an issued permit, and an issued permit is not a finalized one. A permit still open on the record is the one that stalls a sale.
- If nothing comes back, the work may predate the city's published range, or it may have been done without a permit. Both look identical in an open-data search, which is why a written report matters at a closing.
